How Community Ownership Works

The Community Ownership Model employs a targeted and co-operative approach to introduce a more positive understanding of youth issues in the community. By working in conjunction with key stakeholders, we are seeking to minimise harm and risk to both young people and the broader community.

The model includes case management of at-risk and street frequenting young people to provide them with the necessary information, support and referrals, to allow them to make informed decisions, and reconnect them back into the community.

It also addresses issues of public space, and community perceptions of young people's use of this space, and strengthening the community through involving and maintaining local capacity.  By being directly on the street, Open Family Australia's street outreach workers are often the first point of contact for many transient and at-risk young people.  They engage with these young people, identify the services and support they require and link them into those services during the day.
